Like yourself, I was also raised in a family with two parents who worked equally as hard to support both my older brother and I. It amazes me how such gender roles can restrict women from being able to maintain a job outside of the house. In my opinion, this is a way to take away their sense of independence and simply give them the title of a "stay at home mom". Your country of Costa Rica had very similar gender role values to my country Madagascar, and over the years both have come a long way to diminish such traditional values and women now have more freedom and equality.

Hopefully women will continue to advance now that there is a female president in Costa Rica. They seem to be slowly advancing, but are stuck with the traditional "household" women. It is difficult for us to understand because we are surrounded by equality both in the workplace and at home.

I agree with you that there are stereotypes about gender roles all over the world. However, it is hopeful to hear that Costa Rica is making advances towards these gender roles. Hopefully, the education the women are receiving will also help women get the jobs that men are getting.
